red geraniums x 12,000

sigh

or how many red geranium photos could or would be too many ?
you know I'll never tell

Oliver and I are now reading Jonathon Frantzen's first, much raved about book The Corrections. We loved Freedom ... and can't really stop thinking about it. I love it when a book has that effect on me, the characters feeling like they live here in my village maybe just up the street.

I'm currently on candy making kick - peanut butter cups yesterday, marshmallows today, peppermint patties the next - photos to follow, I promise

  1. Oliver is saying....hope you have that water level correct!!! We too are in the sugar, sugar, stir, + more sugar mode of making Marshmallows and Caramels....mom is printing each label on the work horse printing press and then we all go and secretly (don't tell anyone)place them at each of our neighbors door knobs....HO HO HO, WOOF WOOF WOOF.

  3. I must read the Correcetions again - I liked it. I liked Freedom, too. But for some reason I have not been able to add Franzen to my list of favourite authors. I'm still trying to figure out why.

best part is painting the melted chocolate into all the little creases of the paper cups - uh and eating them of course

  5. Hi Marie - ya know I don't think I'd add him either to a favourite author's list but I do LOVE the way he writes, the quirks & foibles he creates and his characters are all people I'd like to know - I so related to Walter in Freedom and his messed up, meaning well social correctness + his books are funny to boot. I watched his long book club interview on Oprah and that made me like him even more. He comes across as nerdy, very socially reluctant and shy in a really intelligent way - my kinda guy ;-)

  7. So do you Nova Scotians have macaroon bars over there? My sister brought me a couple from Glasgow. Ingredients: Sugar, glucose, chocolate FLAVOURED coating, and toasted coconut (to cover). Sounds deadly but in fact deliciously wicked. I'd send you a photo, but sadly, they've both disappeared. Strange.....
