on the Picton Castle

My tall ships boarding excursion was interesting. The crew on all the ships looked a bit like young Martha's Vineyard Kennedy clan type, very Abercrombie & Fitch - handsome, tanned, sun bleached blond streaks in their hair, cool & hip and I felt old and dowdy. It was most interesting to just stand on the corner of the large cement wharf that I often photograph from the shore and look out into our harbour from a completely new vantage point. The village was packed yesterday - throngs of tourista. There was live music in the park all day, food vendours and nautical type souvenir booths lined the street that runs along the water and a chip wagon parked at the end of our street, 1 door down so my office smelled of deep fried things the entire day. I live very close to all the action. In fact I don't really have to leave this old brick house to feel a part of it all - I live that close to both the harbour and the park.

It's been raining since last evening, it rained hard all through the night and is still raining this morning. Dark, grey, warm and very wet. Miss D and I will have to put our slickers on this morning. The only plan I have for today is housecleaning (which should be interesting ?) as it is by far my least qualified skill & ability. That said I am determined to do my best, to give it my all - at least that's what I'm saying now at 6am - midway through my power hours of 5-7am - the only time of day in my world when truly anything & everything is possible.

  1. I love the sounds and noises of these boats. Feet on wood, the rustling of big cloth. The stretching of strong rope. Water against the hull. I know you're not a deep water girl but how cool just to ride along as they unfurl those big sails and catch a big wind.

  2. I think it's why I'm so fascinated by the ocean, sailing and boats - because I am afraid, and definitely in awe - that push pull kinda fear. The same way that can have you be afraid of scary movies or roller coasters - and love them at the same time.

And hey ! speaking of deep water Guess what?? it's Shark Week on the discovery channel. Shut Up !! I LOVE shark week. Cue up that VCR.
