5 x 7 monotone gouache studies - cat in meadow, bowls & still life No.1 - Susan Black

Remember a few days ago I mentioned how inspired I was by the quirky, loose, gestural paintings of Bella Foster - well I've been diving in, the secret I'm thinkin' is a big brush, not too much pre-planning or over thinking (say what ??) 1 colour only + tons of confidence !!

a good start me thinks ...

  5. in monotone -without color distraction - you can focus on form and composition. and over thinking kills intuitive art . go, you! xo

  6. Technique--big brush and confidence--sounds like a Japanese calligrapher, writing a banner.

  7. Is art reflecting life here? Has constrained and meticulously planned given over to loose, open and optimistic? It looks like it!

  9. Love all three - wonderful. Ditto on everyone else's comments as well. It is beyond a 'start', these speak well of carefree. Keep pursuing, magic is happening.
