silence is golden

a selection of autumn favourites from the last 2 weeks

Speaking of silence, it's Remembrance Day here in Canada.
A day to remember unbelievable honour & stunning bravery. Two minutes of quiet at 11 am.

Silence is golden ? ... could be golden ? ... might be golden ?

I spied this typographic poster at Creature Comforts yesterday and thought it was yet another healthy reminder. I'll store this message on the same virtual 5" x 3" index card in my brain that is constantly whispering to me, "if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all". You see speaking, writing, typing often gets me (& my other self) in trouble. Trouble meaning that ol' anxious feeling. The knot in the stomach, the soft tap, tap, tapping of worry & fret about to come tumbling in - I think you maybe said to much ... again ! in that oh so sing songy voice of hers - best Shut Up ! When in doubt, say nothing - the secret, I'm thinkin' is to recognize "when in doubt" the next time I bump into him.

My current virtual index card reminders

Be kind, for everyone is fighting a harder battle - Plato
Be kind to unkind people - they need it the most - Ashleigh Brilliant
If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all - Thumper
The temple of our purest thoughts is silence - unknown
Of those who say nothing ... few are silent - Thomas Neiel

and now I'll add this perfect ditty

Never say anything which doesn't improve on silence

  7. MS - I hear ya ... breathing helps, deep purposeful breathing although I usually forget to try this and I just let you-know-who chatter on ... and on.

  9. Gorgeous photo of your home.

I was reading recently about the rave young Canadian men who singed up early to go fight in the RAF against Nazi tytranny. Incredible.
