To gain your own voice,
you have to forget about having it heard.
Allan Ginsberg

I'm procrastinating.
I'm writing.
I'm writing about procrastinating writing.
True fact.

I'm writing a blog post (kind of) about writing an article, an article for Cloth, Paper, Scissors an article about the process, a how-to (with photos) of creating my collages. An article I pitched to the magazine (and they kindly accepted). I've just begun working on a book proposal pitch also, & how's that for a c-r-a-z-y, kooky idea ? I'll be writing that pitch as soon as March is finished. I write pages & pages in my journal each day, writing is therapeutic, writing is like medicine. I've been writing something on this blog nearly every single day for almost 6 years. How can that be ? I spend a lot of my time writing but ... I don't like writing, sometimes I dread writing. I find writing really quite difficult. I think about people who write essays, books of fiction, or even worse non fiction (the research and the fact checking and foot notes) - it boggles my mind - how they do it, how they stick with it for all those hundreds of pages. A perfect example - I'm currently reading Spillover: Animal Infections and the Next Human Pandemic by David Quammen it's one of those big, fat chunky science books so ripe with information I find myself rereading almost every paragraph. It's dense, factual, heavy going at times, science writing that's written for lay people like me. At practically every page in the beginning I was thinking Wow ! I wonder how long it took him to finish this book yet I know for a fact he's a pretty prolific writer and of big, fat, dense, science/nature books.

So just to be clear, my own book proposal is not for that kind of writing writing book. My proposal will be for a crafty paper/collage/typographic art projects kind of book. Though there will be writing necessary and it will need to be writing of that clear and concise kind ... never ever my favourite & certainly not my forté. Oh, I much prefer the stream of consciousness kind, the I'm sorry but we didn't learn grammar or punctuation when I was in school kind (that's also a true fact, some sort of early 70's experiment), the I don't have to use capital letters if I don't feel like it kind of writing, the ramble if you care to kind. You know, I know you do.

And by the way, everything in life is writable about
if you have the outgoing guts to do it, and the imagination to improvise. The worst enemy to creativity is self-doubt.
Sylvia Plath
