6 photos of my shaggilious sweet girl D (who says no thank you to all grooming attempts)

Our house is a very, very fine house
With two cats* in the yard
Life used to be so hard
Now everything is easy ... 'Cause of you

Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young

* actually that would be 1 big, fat, black velvet chicelet in the yard plus 2 crazy kittens inside

Thank you Mary, most excellent yoga instructor, for helping make my wicked Wednesday oh so wicked and in that lovely, chilled out, Hey Susan let's be nice to You today kinda way. At the end of our practice as we lay on our mats in the darkness of the elementary school gymnasium, breathing in & out with deliberation & focus allowing our thoughts to bob along our breath like the seagulls we see bobbing carefree on the waves in the harbour ... she read to us this poem.

The Guest House

This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.

A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.

Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they are a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.

The dark thought, the shame, the malice.
meet them at the door laughing and invite them in.

Be grateful for whatever comes.
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.

My mind and body both whispered, thank you.

  1. Dear Susan,

I adore your writings and your lovely art and have been reading for almost a year. Thank you for letting us in every morning, it makes the most delightful difference in how my days unfold.

    Thank you.

  2. Awwww...how sweet for you Susan!

  3. Winnie is looking mighty dignified in that first pic! Nice portrait of her. :)

  4. Hey anonymous ! Thanks, that's such a sweet comment and "you" just made my day.

That sweet D she does have her "oh, is this one for the blog?" face on ;-)

  5. That first photo is priceless Susan. Glad you are enjoying the yoga!Always something interesting happening at Black Street.x

  6. Such soulful brown eyes, what a lovely girl. I GOTTA get a habitable house, so I can take in all the animals I can afford.

  7. "He may be clearing you out
    for some new delight."

I sure hope that line above is the case, because I am getting VERY worn out love and abandonment. Uck
