comfort, love & safety - a truly amazing photograph by Mark Loper

This photograph makes my heart ache and swell to ten times it's normal size. It proves, yet again, that animals large and tiny are just like us - they have feelings and they crave love and comfort as we do.

Be kind and caring to all living creatures.

That's what this photo speaks to me.

  3. Quite right. Except when you have to look away as a demented little cat in hot pursuit of a house fly succeeds in her mad-eyed quest, and there is loud chomping......

  4. Tis so true isn't it Rachel - they are such big game hunters, even inside cats. Beware moths, spiders and any other flying, crawling things. And oh, pity the poor mouse who inadvertently leaves the safety of the interior wall space of this old brick house. Be wary all living things - 'cause Gus & Oliver live here. Bleet thankfully is old & fat and at this point in his life enjoys being a spectator only to the wild kingdom occasional carnage.

  5. We've spent most of the morning watching a mother chipmunk coax her new crew of four out of their hole just outside our kitchen window. Just adorable. Your post was so appropriate for today!

  7. Love this !!!
I have lots of squirrels that visit my yard. Large, medium and small. That's why when one got injured, I gound a wild animal rescue and drove to nowhereville to get that squirrel help.

  9. This photo makes my heart break. "Can it be real?" I thought. And when you said it was, I wanted to gather up the whole world in my arms, stop wars, stop fighting, and be a vegetarian. Reminds me of the Bible verse, "The Lion shall lie down with the Lamb."

  10. Martha - you have expressed in your comment exactly how this photo made me feel. I've written to Mark and suggested he turn it into a poster, perhaps with a quote along the bottom, something like "What the world needs now ... is love, sweet love". It's an amazing photograph.

  11. What an amazing photo that really tugs at one's heart! So much emotion wells up and springs forth. There are SO MANY delicate things around us and yet, how many times do we walk by it/them because we are too busy with our own "agenda"? I was just telling a close friend a few days ago that we need to take more time out for the little things....too much forgotten and overlooked. It breaks my heart.

Much love to you and the furry gang!
